Resident Individuals Only

Only resident individuals (not NRIs) can file ITR-1. You must be a resident of India as per the residential status criteria under the Income Tax Act. NRIs must file ITR-2 or ITR-3 for their Indian income.

Income Below Rs. 50 Lakhs

Total income in the financial year must be below Rs. 50 lakhs. If your total income exceeds Rs. 50 lakhs, you must file ITR-2 or ITR-3. Agricultural income must be below Rs. 5,000 per year.

Single House Property Only

Income from only one house property is allowed in ITR-1. No brought forward loss from house property permitted. If you own more than one house property, you must file ITR-2 instead.

No Capital Gains
