Business tax filing is the process of filing income tax returns for businesses including companies, LLPs, partnerships, and sole proprietorships. It involves computing taxable income, claiming deductions, paying advance tax, and filing returns under the Income Tax Act 1961 before the due date each financial year.

Companies and LLPs must file by October 31 of the assessment year. Partnership firms and proprietorships have July 31 deadline. Tax audit cases under Section 44AB for companies must be filed by October 31. Late filing attracts penalties under Section 234F of Rs. 5,000 or Rs. 10,000.

Section 44AB mandates tax audit if business turnover exceeds Rs. 1 crore or professional gross receipts exceed Rs. 50 lakhs. The audit must be conducted by a Chartered Accountant using Form 3CD. Cash transactions exceeding Rs. 10 lakhs have additional reporting requirements under the Income Tax Act.

Advance tax is tax paid in installments during the financial year if your tax liability exceeds Rs. 10,000. Due dates are June 15 (15%), September 15 (45%), December 15 (75%), and March 15 (100%). Failing to pay attracts interest under Sections 234B and 234C of the Income Tax Act.

TDS return filing is mandatory quarterly for businesses deducting tax on salaries, contractors, rent, interest, and professional fees. Form 24Q for salaries, 26Q for other payments. Returns must be filed within 31 days of quarter end. TDS certificates must be issued to deductees.

Late filing penalty under Section 234F is Rs. 5,000 if filed within December 31, and Rs. 10,000 if filed later. For total income below Rs. 5 lakhs, penalty is capped at Rs. 1,000. Interest under Section 234A is charged for delayed filing at 1% per month.

Section 44AD allows small businesses with turnover up to Rs. 3 crore to declare 8% income (6% digital) and avoid books of accounts. Section 44ADA covers professionals with receipts up to Rs. 75 lakhs at 50% presumptive income. No tax audit required under presumptive scheme.
